Daisy Escamilla was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. At a young age, she developed a love of art that has continued to grow and shape her life in countless ways. Daisy has a strong interest in the handmade and always finds ways to incorporate tactile elements into her design work, including aspects of hand lettering, illustration, cut paper, and collage. Her culture has been a strong influence throughout her design work, leading to projects such as Ojalá-her senior degree project-which focuses on humanizing Hispanic DACA recipients and friends in her community. She is currently involved with ArtsTech, a non-profit organization whose goal is to better the lives of underserved urban youth. As a member of their Splash Mob, she has gained experience in working community events, such as the Plaza and Westport Art Fair, along with doing commission work and murals for clients in the KC area. Daisy plans on staying in Kansas City after graduating in May, looking for more opportunities to serve her community with her skills.
